The game doesn’t take place in the Old West
It’s easy to get confused about the setting of Red Dead Redemption 2, because it isn’t really the Old West. The game takes place in a fictional version of America called New Austin, which is based on Texas and Mexico. It’s 1899 and you play as Arthur Morgan–a member of Dutch van der Linde’s gang (named after its leader) who has been loyal for years and now finds himself at odds with his boss due to events that occur during your travels together.
The game begins when you’re released from prison after serving time for robbery; your first stop is Saint Denis–a bustling city where people go about their business day-to-day without much thought given toward outlaws like yourself or even lawmen such as Marshal Leigh Johnson who patrol its streets looking for troublemakers like yourselves too often than not these days!
You can play as a female character
You can play as a male character, or you can choose to play as a female character.
