Introduction
I’ve been playing Total Annihilation for almost two decades now, and I’ve learned a lot about how to win. I’m going to share some of my best strategies with you so that you can use them in your next battle.
Never Let Your Guard Down
You might be winning the battle, but never let your guard down. Even if it looks like you’re going to win, there are always ways that things can go wrong and make you lose the battle. If you allow yourself to relax and become complacent about how things are going, then this is when mistakes happen–and these mistakes can cost you everything.
In one battle I was involved in last year, we had been winning for a long time and were confident that we would win again this year (because our strategy worked). However, because of our overconfidence from previous victories against this particular enemy tribe member (who wasn’t as skilled at fighting), we let ourselves get sloppy with our defenses and tactics–and before long they were able to launch an attack on one side of our base that led directly into another part where they took over several critical structures needed for survival (such as food storage).
Always Question Your Opponent
You never know what you’re going to get in a battle. The other team might be just as strong or even stronger than yours, and they could have some tricks up their sleeves that you don’t know about. To ensure that you come out on top, always question your opponent.
- Ask questions: This will help you find out what their weaknesses are and how to exploit them. For example: “Why did all of my troops die?” or “What do I need to do better next time?”
- Find out what their strengths are so that when they try to use them against us again later in the game, we can stop them before they become too powerful (or perhaps even turn those strengths into weaknesses). For example: “They had lots of units at once point in time but now there aren’t any left because I took them all over.”
Never Give Up
Never give up, even if you are losing. You can still win if you keep fighting until the end of the game. You might have a chance of winning if you keep trying, so don’t give up!
